Bright Star Learning Center’s 2025 Summer Camp Wrap-Up

Updated: Jul 27

Six Weeks of Learning, Growth, and Fun

Bright Star Learning Center’s six-week Summer Camp was an incredible experience for students and staff alike. This year’s program offered a rich blend of academic enrichment, physical activity, and creative exploration which were all designed to help students sharpen their skills and expand their horizons before the new school year.

Throughout the summer, students engaged in focused lessons in both math and reading. These sessions helped reinforce key concepts from the previous school year while also introducing new material in preparation for the fall. Reading was further encouraged through daily access to books from the North Branch Library thanks to librarian Mrs. Nancy Erny, and students were proud participants in our Summer Reading Program.

Hands-On Enrichment & Exploration

Our camp also emphasized learning beyond the classroom. Under the guidance of Mr. Anthony Lee, students learned foundational skills in both soccer and volleyball—focusing on teamwork, coordination, and the joy of movement. Meanwhile, Ms. D. Wright led our music sessions, introducing students to rhythm, beats, and even the basics of playing the recorder. These activities sparked creativity and confidence in equal measure.

The Family Health Center Dental Mobile Unit paid a special visit to the camp, providing students with vital lessons in dental hygiene. Each child received a personal dental care package and left with a deeper understanding of the importance of oral health.

We also hit the road for several exciting field trips! Campers visited the South Carolina State Museum, The Max Family Entertainment Center, and the YMCA Water Park. These outings gave students the opportunity to connect with history, bond with peers, and—of course—enjoy a little summer fun.

In addition to all this, our students got their hands dirty by gardening. This year, they successfully grew tomatoes, cucumbers, and cantaloupes. It was a powerful lesson in patience, responsibility, and the rewards of nurturing something from seed to harvest.
